February 16, 2010 - Sasha Cohen will be in Vancouver after all. Less than a month after her bid to make her third consecutive Olympic team ended with a fourth place showing at the 2010 U.S. Championships, the reigning Olympic silver medalist has joined the team of Yahoo! Sports experts covering the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.

“The Olympics have always been a special competition with an atmosphere unlike anything else,” said Cohen, the 2006 U.S. Champion. “I’ve been out there on the ice before with the world watching, and that was amazing, but I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Olympics in a different way. I am excited for the new challenge that working with the Yahoo! Sports team will provide.”

Cohen, who has already arrived in Vancouver, will provide expert analysis and commentary on the men’s and ladies short programs and free skates from the Pacific Coliseum on the Yahoo! Web site. The men’s competition starts Tuesday and continues Feb. 18 while the ladies events are next week, Feb. 23 and 25.

Cohen finished fourth in her Olympic debut at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Four years later, she won the short program, then went on to win a silver medal.

Following a bronze medal performance at the 2006 World Championships, Cohen left the competitive realm to focus on touring with Stars on Ice, something she will resume this spring, as well as other creative endeavors including acting.

She attempted her return in fall 2009 but injuries kept her out of international competition. At 2010 nationals, she captivated the crowd with a spectacular second place short program, helping her to a fourth place finish overall at the event.

Sasha completes comeback to skating

January 23, 2010 - Sasha Cohen's courageous return to skating continued Saturday in Spokane, Wash., with a fourth place showing at the 2010 U.S. Championships.

“It was so special to come back and skate again,” said Sasha, who made her season debut in Spokane because an injury forced her to withdraw from her two fall international events. “There wasn't sadness and wasn’t regrets. I'm just really proud to be here, really proud to skate again.”

Sasha was second in the short program but fell on the triple flip in the free skate, bringing her to a fourth place finish overall.

“I wanted to challenge myself and compete again, and I'm so glad I did,” the three-time World medalist said. “The U.S. girls are so young, so exciting. It’s really fun to watch them.”

Sasha is an alternate for the 2010 U.S. Olympic team and the 2010 World Championship team. She's also touring the country full time with Stars on Ice later this spring.

Sasha in Vancouver mix after stellar short

January 21, 2010 - Sasha Cohen was welcomed back to competitive figure skating with a standing ovation. At the 2010 U.S. Championships, she handed the second best short program of the night, bringing the crowd to their feet.

"I'm so happy to be out here," said Sasha, who has not competed since winning the bronze medal at the 2006 World Championships. "It was really a special night for me."

Sasha's score of 69.63 points is slightly behind 2008 national champion Mirai Nagasu and just ahead of two-time U.S. silver medalist Rachael Flatt, keeping her in the mix for the Olympics despite the long absence.

The free skate will be aired live Saturday on NBC. Following the conclusion of the event, U.S. Figure Skating will name two ladies to the 2010 U.S. Olympic team. If Sasha receives the nod, it would be her third appearance at the Olympics.

Sasha won the silver medal at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games after taking home the top prize from the 2006 U.S. Championship. She was also second at the 2002 nationals and fourth at the Olympics.
