Meet Natasha Cohen

Natasha and Sasha

Natasha and Sasha have a special sister relationship. As much as they share in common with their everyday likes, they are as diverse in pursing their life’s goals.

“Compared to Sasha we generally seem to have a lot in common. The only difference is sometimes Sasha wants to stay home and rest, and I want to go out with friends. We share similar likes in shopping.”

Sasha is getting recognition in figure skating but Natasha also has received some lofty honors.

Natasha has been honored as an International Poet of Merit in 2001 for her selections. Natasha read a selection of her poems at a tea party that helped raise funds for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center this spring.

Natasha recently celebrated her 16th birthday with Sasha and family.

Natasha attends Miss Porter’s School in Connecticut.

Natasha will be spending part of her summer at the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. Her Spanish teacher nominated her. Only 350 students from the U.S. will attend.

“I am elected to represent the state of Connecticut, and it’s going to be a politically informing conference. We’ll be going to different sites. It’s going to be on the theme of ‘if we were President what would we do.’ I would love to learn more about politics.

Natasha was active in sports at Miss Porter’s. She competed in lacrosse and was named co-Most Valuable Player. “Miss Porter’s requires you to play one sport a year. On the West Coast I had never heard of lacrosse. I’m not an athletic person. I usually like dance or theatre. In the fall I did ballet class and performed in a musical in the winter.

“I had never experienced a team sport. I got such an adrenaline rush in the games. I found it more interesting to fight through the obstacles. We had mouth guards and helmets to prevent injury. I was real happy with the co-MVP award. I enjoyed playing lacrosse and will be going to camp at Wesleyan University this summer.

I am interested in going to college. I would love to go to Columbia, that is my dream. There’s still a lot of other great colleges I like such as UCLA, NYU, Berkeley and Stanford.

Natasha is Co-MVP

Comments from coach Sarah Broadhead
Our first co-MVP came in under the radar. Natasha Cohen found her knack for scoring in the third game of the season and pretty much didn’t stop after that. She scored 16 goals this season, more than half of the team total. Her most impressive showing may have been in our 5-4 win over Ethel Walker where she scored four out of our team’s five goals. Her winning goal was scored with under two minutes to play, when it looked like we were going to have to settle with the tie. Her goal scoring skills and offensive prowess are truly commendable.

Natasha is fifth from the left.
